The Everyday Matters Challenge this week was to sketch something that has a holiday theme. I recently decorated my mantel with a small collection of Nutcrackers that I have acquired over the years. My ancestors came from the southern part of Germany, from a small town called Bindersbach. I decided to sketch two of these figurines in my small Moleskine with graphite, pen, water soluble oil pastels and watercolor pencils. Jeff and Caitlin were watching a movie, and we had the fireplace lit... a cozy atmosphere for a holiday sketch.

Kathleen-- these are FABULOUS!!!!
Totally cute. Love the colors.
Um, are we going to see the rest of them? hint hint :)
Great detail - these are very cute.
Sounds lovely. These drawings are lovely too. Great colour and detail.
Lovely! The detail in these are great!
LOL I just bought my first little nutcracker at....... The dollar store!
I have wanted one for years and just happened on one when I was looking for Christmas wrapping paper! I think they are so magical!
I love your drawings!
Nutcrackers! I love them and have never owned one! These are great!
They both have intense eyes and love those colors! Your decorated journal pages are an inspiration to me, a practice I hope to get better at.
Thank you for visiting my nutcracker collection. I just bought a new one the other day who is playing an accordian and has the cutest lederhosen on... Hopefully my daughter won't mind inheriting a bunch of wooden German men for her holiday tradition.
Teri, that is the problem with the tiny moleskine journals--not much room, I had to sacrafice the full body drawing in favor of a head shot, there just wasn't room for the legs! Maybe next year, I'll just do legs. hee hee!
Happy Holidays everyone!
